Search
engine optimization for real estate website can be a challenge
since sites like
www.realtor.com dominate the on-line marketplace. However,
regional real estate projects can be effectively optimized for
search as demonstrated with St. Edwards Pointe; Staten Island
new construction.
The developers at St. Edwards Pointe had prior understanding of search engine optimization or our SEO services but after a few demonstrations they very quickly decided that their website needed better search visibility. They previously had purchased a website domain name called: www.stedwardspte.com and hired a web designer to put up a basic website. When we came to the project, the website had been up and running for about 3 months and their website was invisible for search phases other than search that used the project name.
The site was actually well code and attractive but we didn't think the current domain name was effective so we did some research and purchased www.statenslandwaterfrontliving.com . This new URL would be more effective for search and also worked perfectly with their marketing campaign. They were building a beautiful waterfront community on the Raritan Bay unlike anything of its kind. So now, the website name and marketing plans were synchronized and the domain name is much easier to remember if heard on the radio or viewed in print.
We forwarded the old domain to www.statenislandwaterfrontliving.com so that anyone that had received marketing materials with the old name would come to the relocated website. So in effective, we rebranded the website name without having to discard any printed materials with the old web address.
We added additional text and links to the home page as well as adding content to internal pages that detailed each of the new construction models. It is a common flaw on real estate websites that the home "featured" on a listing does not have enough quality content. In most cases, the listing is a series of bullets and not full sentences. Creating a story about living at St Edwards Pointe and the quality of the homes was an important part of improving the website for search engine optimization.
The St Edwards Pointe project was a lesson on the importance of URL selection and the importance of good content. Choosing a website name was key in increasing web traffic immediately. The additional content, which is often missing on real estate websites, lifted the site quality and SERP.
On May 27, 2007 the the the following rankings in
Google for the terms shown below which pull up the St Edwards Pointe website or articles written about their works on related websites
that link back to their website. The project was started
just two weeks ago, since in less than 14 days we have increased the
projects visibility on certain words and over the course of the next
month the list will increase.

The end goal will be to have this website come up in Google and Yahoo SERP for terms associated with Staten Island new construction and waterfront properties. The results shown above are also well indexed in Yahoo so now its just more work on creating content and links for the website. In the next months, we will complete the initial SEO scope of service and we believe that the client will be very satisfied with the results. (posted 5/27/2007)
