These were the search phrases we typed into Google on October 5, 2006 at 8:00 am.  The number to the left of each search phrase in red type is the page rank that Red Bank Volvo appeared in Google, on this day.  The number 20+ indicates the dealer was not on the first two pages of search results, 50+ indicating not on the first five pages.

Keep in mind, that I am looking for Red Bank Volvo's website to appear. If a third party has a directory of Volvo dealers or an article on Red Bank Volvo, that does not count for this test. Businesses must control their own destiny in search engine marketing. If your own website is invisible then you are at the mercy of commentary for people you can't control.

In October 2006, nowhere in the first five pages of Google search results did Red Bank Volvo's website appear. If you go to their website http://www.redbankvolvo.com you can see that it is a nice visual website.

However, it is bad for attracting new Internet business.  Since their website does not appear with the very specific search "Volvo Dealer Red Bank " they might as well be invisible for people shopping for Volvo's who don't know their dealership name.

Only the search phrase "Red Bank Volvo" pulls up their website. This is not a surprise of course but as I indicated in this test, using the dealership name would be cheating. I am a customer of Red Bank Volvo and have purchase a few cars from them. They run a very professional dealership and service department.

From these results, it is clear that for these search term their website is not bringing them any real business from web shoppers.
