A Successful Online Retailer Business

Edible Gifts Plus is an online retailer that sells gourmet cookies, pretzels, cakes and personalized gifts.  The website has over 500 items that can be customized with personal messages, photos and greetings.

The owner chose Volusion shopping cart system which we had never worked with before but after a few weeks of tinkering, the system is very search engine friendly.   The only regret we have is that we wish the Volusion team had advised Edible Gifts Plus on how to setup products to optimize their visibility for search.

You see, if you don't setup the products correctly, the URL names are generic and the SEO tags repetitive.  Thus you could end up with 500 products with 500 boring URL names and 500 page titles that are the same.

So, we have some goals that we want to achieve in the coming months, which include good page rankings for the following search terms in Yahoo and Google:

• giant fortune cookies

• chocolate covered fortune cookies

• chocolate dipped Oreos

• corporate gift baskets

• Rice Krispies treats

• gourmet popcorn tins

• chocolate covered popcorn

• gourmet flavored popcorn

• photo cookies cakes

• logo trade show giveaways

We will keep you posted on this new project since we have just started it and we are still not done with editing all the META tags on the 500+ product pages.  We expect the basics to be completed by February 1, 2008 and then aggressive link building in February.  So, keep an eye out of Edible Gifts Plus and don't forget to use them for you Valentines Day Gifts.

The Edible Gifts Plus project demonstrates that there are good off the shelf  HTML ecommerce websites optimized for search.  These sites  will always beat a flash ecommerce website in the organic search marketing wars.
